Scientists pursue an ultimate dream. That dream is the social system of values which prioritises scientific ideas and methods. But this final scenario is essentially a matter of tradition. For the most part, the scientific tradition is formed by many years of hard work and labour. These mean that only after passing through the distillery of time, the work of scientists may become social norms. Another requirement is the transfer of this repertoire from seniors to the successors.

New Symposium’s history goes back almost half a century. This period spans a substantial part of the Republic’s past. Significance of the journal may be conceived more accurately if seen in the perspective of the fact that psychiatry is a relatively young medical science. Late Professor Ayhan Songar, the founding editor of the journal and his colleagues were the few pioneers that opened the doors for others to follow. Today, we pay respect to their memories.

Our journal have been published with almost no interruptions over its long and remarkable course. Today, we are excited about undertaking this task on behalf of all the academic members of the staff at the Department of Psychiatry of Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty.

Pleased to be reaching to our readers, we would also like to stress our determination to serve to the scientific community of psychiatry at large.
